In November and early December 2017, Managing Partner Barry Newbury and co-founding partner Jon Rolfe are traversing Costa Rica from east to west to raise funds for The Lewis Moody Foundation. All proceeds raised by the pair will go the the charity, which raises funds to combat brain tumours. To donate, please follow this link.
Brain tumours kill a child every 3 days and yet receive the lowest funding of all cancers (less than 2% of money raised for cancer charities is spent fighting brain tumours). Barry has also been affected as a close friend died in 2016 from a brain tumour. Barry and Jon hope to raise £20,000 to help address this imbalance in funding.
Over 8 arduous days, the pair will combine mountain biking, trekking and kayaking as they wind their way from the Atlantic to the Pacific coast. They will be exposed to the elements which will vary from hot and humid to cold fog. They are also arriving at the end of the rainy season. Camping under the stars in these conditions, they will not be comfortable! They are joined on the trek by Lewis Moody, the ex England rugby captain, and a small group of other fundraisers with an overall fundraising target of £75,000.
If you are able (and willing!) to donate to this great cause, please visit the JustGiving page here.
Commenting on their undertaking, Jon said, "It's been such a revelation to learn about the challenges faced by those suffering from this debilitating condition and shocking to learn of the relative lack of funding brain tumours receive. Although this is a very challenging task, Barry and I are determined to raise as much money and awareness as we can."
Barry added, "Having lost my close friend to a brain tumour last year, I too was shocked to learn of the relative under-funding brain tumour research currently receives. I hope that by taking on this challenge, we can help raise much needed funds."Back to news
